Laguna Beach has always been a big part of my husband’s life – as a child he spent his summers eating ice cream on Main Beach with his family and now as adults we take full advantage of the summer timeshare we have. We love the town because it’s the perfect place to take our little family – the kids can’t get enough of the beach and the Candy Baron and I can’t get enough of happy hour cocktails and oysters on the beach. We book our beach front room every year over July 4th to watch the annual fireworks show over the ocean – a truly breathtaking display. It warms my heart to see the kids making memories of summers spent in Laguna that they will cherish the rest of their lives just as Wiley does.
I packed all my beach town essentials – ripped jean shorts, breezy, linen shirts, a few fun dresses, an array of sunglasses, and my new favorite black Becca one piece.
For Vivi I packed some super easy rompers and her new Freshly Picked gold Mary Jane moccasins – which were perfect for running around town in. Vivi isn’t a huge fan of hard soles so these super soft moccasins have quickly become her favorite pair and I love how gorgeous they look with all her outfits. I also always bring some cute clips – this time I brought some gorgeous star clips by Cammi and Co. that added the finishing touch to every outfit. As we are day weaning her off the bottle I also brought these cute Chicco NaturalFit straw bottles we recently got for her – they’ve been a huge help with the transition and I love that they don’t leak in my bag when we’re out and about all day. Every year I make it my mission to eat my way through all my favorite restaurants – Watermarc for their mussels and pear martinis, K’Ya Bistro for their small plates (the scallop risotto being my favorite), Las Brisas for their spicy tuna tacos and margaritas, Okura for sushi, and Alessa for some delish Italian (when I was pregnant one year I ate their pesto linguine four times in one week because I was craving it). And of all the tacos this busy beach town has to offer it’s hard to beat the blackened calamari tacos at Taco Loco.
During the day, went I’m not perusing the same shops over and over for the perfect candle to bring home or building monstrous sandcastles on the beach you can find us at The Sawdust Art Festival – a gorgeous local art festival with fun crafts for the kids only a short trolley ride from town. We spent the day having spicy tofu taquitos and beers, listening to live music, and buying local art (a gold and pearl ring, miniature oil painting and handmade coffee mug are now safely tucked away in my luggage ready to come home).
After a week of being spoiled by good food, killer sunsets, fireworks, and long beach days we head back home. Well-rested, tan, and happy – we are ready to go back home to our dogs and our big, white, soft bed (nothing beats my own bed with my own sheets). I would be a lot more depressed about the end of this trip if it weren’t for my Catalina vacation in less than two weeks! Needless to say I will spend the next two weeks recharging my liver and doing my sit-ups for island vacation part deux!
