Every few months my husband and I sneak off for 24 hours away from the kids to reconnect and recharge. This year we decided to do it at the end of September to celebrate my 32nd birthday and our eight-year wedding anniversary. What better spot, we thought, than to go back to the hotel where we spent our wedding night –Westlake Village Inn. It’s a beautiful, Tuscan-inspired resort in Westlake Village complete with a working vineyard, sprawling gold course, private lake, restaurants, nightclub, pool and spa.
When we arrived at the property, our stress just melted away. The kids had a full day of fun planned with Opa (my Dad) and we had no plans whatsoever than to enjoy ourselves and the beautiful hotel. The property is so beautiful and inviting so while we waited to check in we explored all its nooks and crannies (after all, we remembered very little of it from our wedding night! Ha!).
While exploring we made our way over to a lovely restaurant called Mediterrano (pictured above) for a satisfying lunch of cocktails, calamari with arrabiata sauce, cesar salad, and grilled salmon piccata. We drank spicy margaritas and pear mules while watching the ducks swim around the lake – it was so nice to have a quiet, kid-free lunch! Everything was cooked to perfection and it really hit the spot.
Now that we had a nice buzz we eager to check into our room – that was upgraded to a 750 sq. ft. luxury suite! I wish you could have seen my face when we opened the door. It was one of the nicest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in and I was like a kid in a candy shop. The main room has a cozy living room with a balcony, fireplace, bar, and faux fur throws over the chairs.
As I walked through to the bedroom I just wanted to cry tears of joy. There was the most gloriously inviting, plush, king-sized bed with fresh white linens. It looked like a cloud of happiness. I promptly turned both fireplaces on and jumped into a white robe for the full effect. We spent a better half of the afternoon lounging in that bed of happiness in our robes watching movies.
When we finally emerged from our luxury suite we were famished and headed back to Mediterrano for dinner (we attempted for a dinner of pizza, wine and live music at Stonehaus but they didn’t take reservations and it was SO packed by 6:30 so if you go, go early). Mediterrano was just as lovely for dinner however as it was for lunch. We had the hamachi crudo and the cauliflower appetizers, both of which were SO good and then we finished with another delicious cesar salad and a margarita pizza (thin, crispy and delish). Oh, and a more cocktails of course!
After dinner we strolled through the property back to our suite where we promptly changed back into our spa robes. It was a heavenly day for us.
The next morning we watched movies in bed with our room service (lox and bagel for Wiley, breakfast croissant for me, and a giant carafe of coffee). There is something so luxurious about having coffee and breakfast brought to you in bed while you lounge in your robe. Pure bliss!
After our relaxing morning we decided to hit the hot tub for a quick dip before heading home to our babies. Their pool area is so gorgeous we couldn’t resist and had we had more time to linger we would have most definitely had lunch by the poolside – next time!
As we drove home, I felt so refreshed and recharged. Amazing what 24 hours away can do! If you’re in the Los Angeles area and want a place to escape to for a weekend away I highly recommend Westlake Village Inn. I cannot wait to visit again!
