One of my nearest and dearest friends, Cassandra, recently invited us up for a belated birthday weekend at Ojai Vista Farm, a sustainable avocado farm brought back to glory by her mother Susan Moll. Nestled in the hills of Ojai, surrounded by avocado and citrus trees, it is the most beautiful property (and one that has come a long way thanks to Susan). When she first bought the place, all the avocado trees were dead, the property was neglected, and no one had lived there for 30 years. But, like she has done before, Susan saw that diamond in the rough and made it shine. Her projects always look like they are straight out of Instagram/Pinterest/Design Magazines – you get the idea. Perfection. When I first heard that she bought this failing farm in Ojai I was so excited because I knew she would turn it into something truly special. And, of course, she did!
Every inch of Ojai Vista Farm is beautiful and inspiring and it was so lovely to just spend a chill weekend there with friends to escape the city and reconnect. Even though it’s only an hour-and-fifteen minute drive from our house it felt like another world away.
Our days were spent lounging by the pool, exploring the groves, and inventing new cocktails, while the nights were aglow with strands of market lights and a fire pit. We played Catch Phrase and Charades and drank more wine than we probably should in our 30s. Our trip was short but so sweet and just what we all needed.
Our full day there was spent in town. We took the kids to Libbey Park which was so much fun. It’s a playground on steroids and the kids went crazy! After fully exhausting them, we headed to the Ojai Valley Inn for some sandwiches, salads and wine. Vivi napped peacefully while Henry attempted to play golf on a little kiddie course.
Our final morning was spent eating pancakes and breakfast burritos under the shady oaks in the most beautiful little spot. We chatted with Susan about the property and it’s future projects (as long as I’ve known her Susan has never NOT had a project she was diving into), while also trying to protect our food from Fable, the cutest little goat that managed to jump on top of the table more than once during breakfast.
