Living in Southern California, you pretty much are born loving two things – tacos and the beach (and if you get to combine those two it’s a match made in heaven). This is why I cherish my afternoons spent with my dad and the kids at Topanga Beach followed by Taco Tuesdays at Reel Inn. It couldn’t be a more California combo. Topanga Beach is a popular surf spot off the PCH between Pacific Palisades and Malibu complete with a lagoon and fun tide-pools for the kids to explore. I set up my favorite little beach pop up tent (this is my favorite) and lay out the drinks and toys while the kids go nuts.
After an exhausting and sandy afternoon (anyone else love the beach but hate sand?!), we use a walk-way to safely cross underneath the Pacific Coast Highway to the Reel Inn – a casual, funky fish shack decorated in Christmas lights year round which holds a spot near and dear to my heart as it’s where Wiley and I had our first date over 10 years ago. After the kids are exhausted and stuffed with clam chowder and quesadillas it’s time to head home. I always change them into pajamas in the back of my car so they can fall asleep to the music as we drive home and I can go home to enjoy my favorite thing about this whole afternoon – early bedtimes!
