Throughout my childhood, on Sundays, we would all hop in the car to escape West L.A. As the freeway turned into the Pacific Coast Highway a wall of glorious, cool, salty beach air would fill the car as we headed towards our destination – Malibu (The Sandcastle at Paradise Cove to be exact). It was the perfect morning – pancakes on the beach followed by hours of playing in the ocean and making friends with the seagulls.
I hadn’t been in YEARS and decided that it was time to take the kids and check it out. Though much has changed it was still such a fun morning. The restaurant is now called Paradise Cove Beach Café and it was delicious! I had a Bloody Mary, poached eggs and potatoes. Henry, of course, had the pancakes.
Afterwards we set up a spot on the beach and hung out for a few hours. It was SO much fun. I got to swim in the ocean for a bit, Henry played under the pier the entire time with Wiley, and Vivi raided the neighboring family’s toys because in true toddler fashion, despite bringing her own, she always wants to play with everyone else’s. You can even bring your own beer, wine and champagne and food onto the beach so next time we might skip breakfast and bring our own picnic and cooler for a change. Also, they get major points with me for having showers to wash the sand off the kids. We had the best time and will definitely be coming back. It’s a perfect escape from the heat!
